HOUSTON -

An ATM was stolen in a brazen smash-and-grab burglary in southwest Houston Wednesday.

Police said a dark-colored Ford pickup truck backed into a store and surveillance video captured three men lift the security gate, pick up the ATM that was bolted to the ground and drive off with it.

A store employee said the ATM was stocked with about $4,000 in cash.

"They took the ATM machine and I think that's the only thing they took," said Linh Nguyen. "I never thought that this would happen to us. We are a neighborhood store and have really nice people coming around."

Nguyen was left with a mess to clean up.

"The damage to the store probably to fix this, I don't know, but I estimate about $10,000 and the ATM machine, worth about $4,000 or $5,000," he said. The crooks escaped.
