A pair of burglars broke into an Aaron's rental store on the Northwest Side late Thursday night and stole a 73-inch big screen television and a couch, San Antonio police said.

The smash-and-grab burglary took place around 9:45 p.m. at the Aaron's in the 3600 block of Fredericksburg Road.

San Antonio police said the two suspects drove up in a white pickup and used a chain to rip out the side doors.

The pair then grabbed the TV and sofa and fled the scene.

Store manager Eddie Moreno said the TV wasn't a surprise -- it's the most common item stolen. Sofa thefts aren't as common.

"I guess an early Super Bowl package they wanted to come in and get," he said.

Police initially responded because the fire alarm went off during the break-in and smoke filled the store. The smoke was due to the store's alarm system, which set off a thick fog when the doors broke.

Moreno said the alarm system doesn't prevent break-ins, but helps limit property loss. He it will cost more than $5,000 to repair the building.
