SAN ANTONIO -

An alleged attack on guards and other staffers at Ayres Halfway House has Byron Barnes, 18, facing charges of assault on a public servant.

Byron Barnes, who has been a resident of the juvenile correctional facility since July, is accused of going on a rampage last Thursday.

The arrest affidavit stated that Barnes, at first, locked the superintendent and himself inside an administration hallway and used his foot to barricade the door.

A juvenile correctional officer managed to break through the barricade, but Barnes overcame him and began choking him, the affidavit stated.

With the help of two other employees, the correctional officer attempted to place Barnes into handcuffs.

However, Barnes repeatedly broke free and at one point, bit the guard on the finger, the affidavit stated.

Finally, they were able to place Barnes into handcuffs and leg restraints. There's no mention in the affidavit about what set off the alleged rampage.
