SAN ANTONIO -

Days after the ballots were cast, Rep. Francisco "Quico" Canseco has conceded defeat in the Texas 23rd Congressional District race.

Representative-elect Pete Gallego won the seat on Tuesday.

Initially, Canseco (pictured) had called for an investigation into the election, saying some voting irregularities had been found in Medina County.

On Friday, Canseco said in a press release that "while there is no doubt there were improperly counted votes, and improperly cast ballots, a full investigation and recount would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming."

Gallego has yet to issue a statement.
