SAN ANTONIO -

San Antonio police arrested a man who they said carjacked a cab driver downtown and then went on a wild ride.

By the time officers had the suspects in handcuffs, they said he had driven the wrong way on at least one highway and tried to drive onto a set of railroad tracks.

Police said the man, who's name has not been released, overpowered a taxi driver around 2:30 a.m. Friday at the Red Roof Inn in the 1100 block of East Houston Street.

He then drove the wrong way onto Interstate 37, transitioned onto Interstate 35 and then exited the highway either at Binz Engleman or Walters Drive, police said.

Eventually, the man tried to make a turn onto a set of railroad tracks near Interstate 35, where the cab got stuck, police said.

The suspect ran away, but officers tracked him down in a ditch near AT&T Parkway and Gimber Road and arrested him.
