SAN ANTONIO -

A livestock trailer full of cattle broke down on the median of Interstate 10 between Wurzbach and Huebner on Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to help spray water on the cattle because Animal Care Services feared they would become overheated.

"When you have animals like this they are packed pretty tight inside the trailer we want to make sure they are safe, the fire department came out, hosed them down, we have been using the temperature gun to make sure they are comfortable while we wait for the tow truck to take them away,” Lisa Norwood with Animal Care Services said.

The trailer was towed away a short time later and the cows are safe.

Traffic was backed up while the trailer was getting ready to be towed.
