SAN ANTONIO -

Manuel Ramirez, 25, a suspect in a child prostitution case now is facing a charge of sexual assault of a child.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a 17-year-old girl told police investigators that Ramirez had beaten and sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions in 2012. The girl was 16-years-old at the time.

Members of a special law enforcement unit, known as the Crimes Against Children Federal Task Force, came across the girl while conducting an undercover operation last October. The group targets child prostitution, the affidavit stated.

During questioning, agents said the girl, a runaway, told them Ramirez had been beating and sexually assaulting her.

She also told investigators she had been working as a prostitute, the affidavit stated. Ramirez originally was arrested last December.

However, a warrant was issued Wednesday in connection with the sexual assault of a child charge.
