The Acro-Cats are in San Antonio this weekend, jumping through Christmas wreaths and performing all kinds of circus tricks.

Acro-Cats trainer Samantha Martin said if you can teach a dog tricks, why not a cat.

"People know the protocol for a puppy," said Martin. "People don't know that there's a similar protocol when it comes to raising a cat."

Martin has been training everyday house cats, teaching them circus tricks and taking them on the road to entertain cat lovers of all ages.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the Rock Cats play amazing Christmas songs," said Jacob Bower, who was watching the show with his parents. "I also want to see the Acro-Cats perform some awesome acts."

The Acro-Cats have even made it on a segment on Animal Planet.

"It's not a special breed or anything," said Martin. "It's just your normal house cat and I kind of want to inspire people to train their own cats because if my cat can do it any cat can do it."

And because these cat performers are former rescues and strays, Martin is also helping out area shelters by hosting adoptions before and after the show.

"She has such an amazing way with all the animals," said Kathryn Roan with the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition, "And, it's such a treat to watch."

Part of the proceeds from these shows will benefit the Alamo Area Partners for Animal Welfare.

More shows are scheduled for Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Josephine Theater.
