Consumer Reports tests mattresses
Buying a mattress can be confusing, so Consumer Reports tested a dozen queen-size foam and inner spring models.
The tested for back and side support, firmness, durability and then cut them open to check construction.
They found you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good night's sleep.
They named three mattress that cost less than $1,000 "best buys."
For inner spring mattresses, the recommended the Simmons Glover Park from Sears for $780 and the Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite sold at Macy's for $835.
For foam mattresses, they liked the Novaform Serafina from Costco for $900.
