Supermarkets are catering more and more to people who want food you can fix in a hurry and is good for you, too.
There's no shame in buying prepackaged foods, according to Consumer Reports' ShopSmart Editor Sue Perry.
"Go for convenience!," Perry said. "Sure, it may cost a bit more, but with everyone so time-pressed and overscheduled these days, sometimes it's your best bet for eating healthy."
Following nutritional guidelines, ShopSmart came up with a list of the healthiest convenience foods.
It includes snacks like Mini Babybel Light Cheese wtih six grams of protein and 50 calories, Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar rice and corn puffs with 130 calories per serving, and Meslissa's Edamame Shelled Soybeans that pack nine grams of protein.
Pairing a bag of Perdue Simply Smart Original Grilled Chicken Strips with fresh veggies makes a quick and healthy meal. And, a box of Doctor Praeger's Tex Mex Veggie Burgers in the freezer is another quick way to get veggies, fiber and vitamins.
