SAN ANTONIO -

A bicyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon after hr was hit by a car on the city's North side.

The wreck occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of West Avenue and Silver Sands.

Police said the cyclist, who was in his mid-50s, was struck from behind by a 17-year-old motorist who was driving a pickup truck.

Witnesses said the teen was driving erratically and may have run a red light.

The identity of the cyclist was not immediately available, but police said he was thrown from his bicycle and was deceased when they arrived.

Police said he was wearing a helmet.

The teen driver was arrested, but it's not clear what charges he faces.
