The Obama administration has chosen not to seek the death penalty in capital cases against alleged members of the Texas Syndicate gang accused of a wave of shootings in San Antonio, some fatal.
The San Antonio Express-News reports court documents reflect Attorney General Eric Holder's decision in cases against 13 people accused of being members of the prison-based gang. They've been indicted on racketeering-related charges.
The indictment includes charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and drug trafficking. Authorities say four slayings since 2008 have been linked to the gang members.
The investigation began in 2010 with a traffic stop in Bexar County that led to the seizure of an undisclosed amount of drugs.
