A suspected drunk driver slammed into the rear of an off-duty deputy's car at a northside construction zone.

Police say the wrecked happened early Saturday at the intersection of Stone Oak and 1604.

They say the county officer worked traffic control at that site just before when the suspected drunk driver crashed into the back of the deputy's car.

The impact trapped the man in his car and firefighters had to cut him from the vehicle.

EMS took that driver to University Hospital, and police say a mandatory blood draw was expected.

The deputy apparently was not injured, but went to the hospital to be checked out.
