Dirty sink, utensils lead to failing scores

SAN ANTONIO -

Two local restaurants failed their recent health inspection for a variety of violations.

Culebra Meat Market #27 on Babcock failed their latest inspection with 32 demerits. Their violations included:

  • The inspector watched an employee rinse their hands briefly and not use soap.
  • Someone was rinsing vegetables in the hand washing sink.
  • Deli meats had no use-by dates.
  • Food particles had dried on some knives.

An employee said the demerits were for "small things." She said the inspector is due to come back for a follow-up visit any day now.

Taqueria Montes De Los Olidos on Commercial Avenue also received a failing score of 32 demerits. Their violations included:

  • A reminder that hair restraints are required.
  • Potentially hazardous food wasn't at a safe temperature.
  • Raw veggies were sitting in a dirty dishwashing sink.
  • Raw beef was found uncovered in the freezer.

The report says that several violations were corrected on the spot. KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door tried to reach the business by phone and were not successful.
