A stray dog found with an embedded collar was saved by the Animal Defense League.

A Good Samaritan found the 8-month-old lab mix, now named Kitty, on her way to Fiesta.

The dog was brought to the Animal Defense League on Wednesday.

Officials believe the collar was left on the dog for weeks or possibly months.

The dog underwent surgery and was recovering at a nearby animal hospital.

Animal Care Services is investigating.

Donations to Kitty's care can be made to the Animal Defense League.
