Driver killed in fiery crash in west San Antonio
SAPD: Adrian Benitez veered off main lanes of Loop 410 at Marbach, crashed into pole
A 24-year-old man died early Monday when he slammed his car into a pole and burst into flames, San Antonio police said.
Witnesses told police the driver, Adrian Benitez, veered off the main lanes of Loop 410 at Marbach Road and drove up the grassy median and crashed his Chevy sedan into a sign pole.
The impact of the crash caused the car to wrap around the pole, witnesses said.
Several Good Samaritans attempted to get Benitez out as flames spread from under the hood.
They kicked in the windshield, but were unable to get Benitez out before the car caught fire.
"You get frustrated at the moment, but we were to get through a small gap in the door and I checked for a pulse and didn't feel anything," said Stephen Kesterson, one of the Good Samaritans.
Benitez was pronounced dead at the scene.
