Driver with broken ankle escapes car fire on Loop 410

A woman's car became engulfed in flames after she crashed into an 18-wheeler on 410 early Wednesday morning.

San Antonio police say the woman was driving along Loop 410 between Ray Ellison and Old Pearsall Road when she rear-ended the big rig around 3:15 a.m.

The woman's car came to a stop on the side of the road, but quickly caught fire.

Despite suffering a broken ankle, the driver managed to crawl out of the car and escape the flames. She was taken to University Hospital for treatment.

Police have not said whether she would face charges for the crash. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
