He spent over 30 years working with the San Antonio Police Department, and now, Gilbert De La Portilla will lend his expertise to KSAT 12 News.
De La Portilla will start appearing in KSAT 12 News stories as a crime analyst, committed to bringing viewers unique insights, especially in the field of crime prevention.
"I've spent the majority of my time since the mid 1990's educating the public on how to keep themselves and their families safe," De La Portilla said.
Beginning in 1994, De La Portilla began working with the Alamo Area Crime Prevention Association, a group he remains active in.
Through that group, and as an adjunct professor at Texas State University, De La Portilla travels the state, certifying officers in standard crime prevention technique.
However, he argued the real key to crime prevention lies with the public.
"They are the police department's eyes and ears," De La Portilla said. "We need each other."
Relying on his experience in crime prevention, as well as nearly a decade on SAPD's SWAT team, De La Portilla will consistently be giving new and unique ways for viewers to stay safe.
