Eagle Ford Shale Attracts New Businesses
Trucking Company Rolls Into South Texas
The Eagle Ford Shale field continues to deliver more than oil. The field is still attracting companies to South Texas and San Antonio.
Lake Truck Lines is now a resident of the Alamo City after President Douglas Cain moved his company to San Antonio this past summer.
"(We) packed up everything, kit and caboodle, the whole shooting match, and brought it here," Cain said.
Cain's trucks haul oil field equipment, focusing on drilling mud, oil, and cement.
Since moving to South Texas, he has added 30 trucks and by the end of next June, he plans to be up to 100 trucks. That means he is not only delivering equipment, but he is also delivering jobs for drivers and office personnel for years to come.
"This oil field play is going to be prolific for decades to come," he said.
Over the next three to five years, Cain said he plans to expand into trailer sales and manufacturing of equipment and that just means more jobs.
Along with that expansion, he said he also plans to build a new facility that will house offices, a training center and sleeping quarters and showers for drivers.
"We'll have facilities where the drivers are well cared for," Cain said.
Cain's business sits on five acres located south of San Antonio off of Loop 1604, but he has another five acres for expansion.
It was not an easy move for Cain.
He dad, Joe, started the business in 1949 hauling fertilizer for farmers in Southeast Texas. Since the business is now hauling oil field equipment, he decided to move right into the middle of it.
"It's the best decision I've ever made," Cain said.
