East Texan gets prison for fake payroll checks
East Texas woman gets nearly 3 years in prison for fake payroll checks, dozens of documents
TYLER, Texas (AP) — An East Texas woman has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for her role in a payroll scam involving the cashing of more than 100 fake checks.
A federal judge in Tyler on Tuesday sentenced 23-year-old Amanda Henderson of Longview. Henderson must also make nearly $15,000 in restitution.
Henderson in November pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Mark Alan McCullars of Marshall also pleaded guilty in the scam and he was sentenced last week to more than four years in prison.
Authorities say McCullars and Henderson since May 2011 created fake identification and bogus documents that appeared to be payroll checks from several businesses. Some check-cashing businesses in East Texas lost more than $55,000 in the scheme.
