CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A former South Texas judge who faces prison in a bribery scandal has testified he helped an Austin attorney with cases and planned to join his firm.
Testimony continues in the Corpus Christi bribery and racketeering trial of Marc Rosenthal. Ex-state District Judge Abel Limas earlier pleaded guilty to racketeering and awaits sentencing.
The Valley Morning Star (http://bit.ly/ZcIb2K ) reports Limas on Wednesday testified about his relationship with ex-state Rep. Jim Solis and Rosenthal. Solis was convicted of extortion-related counts.
Limas described talks with Rosenthal and Solis, saying they issued instructions on orders and rulings for two cases. Limas says discussions also involved him joining Rosenthal's firm and getting $100,000 up front for his favors while on the bench.
The defense says Solis was the person making deals with the judge.
