Gay newlyweds can now announce their marriage properly on Facebook.

The world's largest social network has unveiled same-sex marriage icons for timelines that depict either two tiny grooms or two miniature brides, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Previously, anyone who got married and announced it on Facebook had only the little bride and little groom "cake topper" to choose from -- regardless of whether it was between a man and a woman, two men or two women.

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes was among several to use the new icons this past weekend when he married longtime boyfriend Sean Eldridge. Mark Zuckerberg was among more than 2,000 users who hit the like button on the announcement, according to the Times.

The change follows several notable LGBT inclusion efforts by Facebook, according to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Last year, Facebook added "In a Civil Union" and "In a Domestic Partnership" options to user profiles. The site has also taken significant steps toward preventing anti-gay bullying, and created the Network of Support with GLAAD and other LGBT organizations in 2010, according to GLAAD.
