A family made an explosive find while cleaning out a dead relative's garage Saturday afternoon.

It was a live grenade, and they weren't taking any chances.

The family called police.

Officers rushed to the scene in the 800 block of W. Mayfield around 1 p.m.

When they found out what they were dealing with they immediately blocked off the area.

The family said the relative once told them he'd brought a live grenade home from World War II, but had forgotten where he placed it.

After that relative's recent death, family members found out just where that grenade was.

The explosive was in a garage building detached from the man's home.

Police carefully took the grenade away, and detonated it at a police facility.
