An internal affairs investigation is underway in an incident where an San Antonio police officer shot a dog in the face while responding to a call for a woman found dead at a Southeast side home.

In his police report, the officer says he went to the home on Lake Falls and when no one answered, he went into the backyard.

There, he was met by a dog and, fearing for his life, fired his gun, hitting the dog in the mouth.

The dog's owners say the dog never growled or threatened the officer and wants the city to pay for the dog's veterinary expenses.

Police did say the man who originally called gave them the wrong address.

It turns out the man used to live at the home and police called him back to get the correct address.
