Family wants answers in September 2011 murder
Jose Zamora shot, killed outside Mink Ultra Lounge
It has been nearly a year since 20-year-old Jose Zamora was gunned down on San Antonio’s north side.
His family, as well as San Antonio police, are eager for answers ahead of the anniversary of the fatal shooting.
“He just touched my face and kissed my forehead and said I love you,” said Kristan Gonzalez, Zamora’s girlfriend.
That’s the last time Gonzalez would see or speak to her boyfriend. Hours later, he was shot in the head about 2 a.m. outside Mink Ultra Lounge at 903 Bitters Road on Sept. 18, 2011. Mink Ultra Lounge is now closed.
“I haven’t accepted it, so it feels like any day now he's going to walk through the door and everything's going to be okay,” Gonzalez said, wiping away tears.
Police said Zamora and his friends got into a fight with another group of men just moments before the shooting. Gonzalez said her boyfriend was trying to break up the fight -- something that would fall right in line with the man she loved who wanted to be a police officer and a father one day.
Nearly a year later, the pain is still fresh for Gonzalez and the fact that Zamora’s killer is still out there, she said, makes it all the more unbearable.
"It doesn’t matter how much you hate somebody or how much you don’t like somebody. Whatever is going through your head, you can’t take a life,” Gonzalez said. “You just can’t."
San Antonio Crimestoppers is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
“I think we deserve that much… to know who did it and why,” said Gonzalez. “You deserve to pay for you what you did." Zamora would have turned 21 on Friday.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867.
