They came to pray for the children. They came to pray for the staff. They came to pray for people they had never met but still were hurting for.
Some San Antonians came together Saturday afternoon to pray and to remember the victims of the Connecticut shooting tragedy.
They gathered at the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes on campus at the Oblate School of Theology.
Many lit candles as they offered prayers for not only those killed but also for the families left to deal with the sorrow.
Organizers said in remembering the 20 children and 6 adults killed on Friday they also prayed tragedies like this will never happen again.
Toni McKnight-Adams was among the mourners at the San Antonio vigil.
"It can happen to anyone. Hug your children, love your children and let them know everything is going to be alright," she said.
Vigil organizers say they will continue to hold a prayer service daily for the next 19 days.
Another vigil was scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m.
