DALLAS -

A man who Dallas police said shot and killed a pregnant woman led officers on a high-speed chase and then barricaded himself inside a home Monday.

According to WFAA.com, the man was holed up inside a home in the North Dallas neighborhood of Hamilton Park. The residence where the man barricaded himself is about a half-mile from where the shooting happened.

Police followed closely behind a silver sedan that sped along westbound Interstate 30 near Fair Park before exiting northbound onto U.S. 75 and returning to the neighborhood where the incident began.

The suspect abandoned the sedan and then ran into the home. At one point, the suspect fired at police after fleeing the car, reportedly hitting one officer. The officer was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK, police said.

A nearby school was placed under lockdown and the entire neighborhood was blocked off and media helicopters were asked to vacate the airspace.
