Vendors made their final preparations Thursday for New Braunfels' annual Wurstfest, a 10-day celebration of the city's German heritage.

David Berger, who said he has attended Wurstfest since he was a young boy in the 1960s, put the finishing touches on his booth, preparing to dole out both traditional and non-traditional German fare, such as German tacos, a combination of summer sausage and spicy jalapeno cheese.

"I just like the camaraderie. It's like a reunion for the whole city of all generations," said Berger. "I see friends I haven't seen for a while, I see the folks that knew my parents. It's a good get-together."

The festival's gates open at 4pm on Friday, with the official biting of the first sausage an hour later.

Tickets are available in advance and at the gate.
