A fire ripped through several townhomes on the North Side, leaving dozens of residents looking for a new place to sleep Friday night.
The fires began around 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Windcrest neighborhood. According to residents, a woman in one of the townhomes fell asleep after lighting a cigarette.
Residents said the woman's bed caught fire from the cigarette, and flames quickly spread to the adjoining townhomes.
The townhomes were evacuated while crews extinguished the blaze.
Residents said they've lost everything, including new Christmas gifts.
"The fact that we worked so hard to get what we got them for Christmas and then for them to lose everything, we really don't have clothes to put on," said Shawanna Bush, displaced by the fire. "That's kind of devastating."
The Red Cross said they are providing food and bedding to eight adults and five children displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
