A fire destroyed a vacant fourplex in Northeast Bexar County early Monday morning.

Fire crews from five area departments including Windcrest, Kirby, Converse, Camelot and Gardendale responded to the blaze around 1 a.m. on Brothers Lane near Windsor Oaks and Walzem Road.

When they arrived on scene, flames were shooting through the roof and one of the units in the building was already fully engulfed in flames, Windcrest firefighters said.

Fire crews were only able to actively fight the flames for ten minutes before taking a defensive approach.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but considered suspicious because no one lived in the building.
