A former secretary of the South San ISD was indicted for stealing money meant for the athletic department.
A grand jury indicted Sylvia Neira, 57, on Thursday.
Prosecutors said Neira took thousands of dollars from the district while she worked as a secretary for the athletic department.
Prosecutors said an audit taken last summer showed she typically deposited less than collected, and sometimes deposited no money at all.
The thefts happened from September 2007 through September 2011.
Neira was charged with theft by a public servant and misapplication of fiduciary property.
She faces up to 40 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
