The Martinez Street Women's Center is promoting healthy lifestyles for girls with a free day-long spring break sports camp.
On Wednesday, about 90 girls between the ages of 9 and 14 years old showed up at Denver Heights Community Park at 300 Porter Street for the Girls Got Game event.
Girls were given the chance to try their hand at soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball and dance.
"We wanted them during spring break to get out, for them to make friends, to have the opportunity to try something new and get off the couch," sad Andrea Figueroa, program director of Girl Zone.
She said the goal of the program is to encourage a love of sports and fitness at a young age.
"They come out here, they play all day long and learn a little bit about each sport and try to figure out which one they like best," said Figueroa.
The event used to take place annually but had been defunct for a few years.
Figueroa said she expects the event will return next year with an even bigger turnout.
