SAN ANTONIO -

Friends and family are rallying around one of the survivors of the massacre in Colorado Saturday.

Brent Lowak was at the Aurora movie theater with his friend Jessica Ghawi at the July 20 midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" and was one of the injured victims.

When Lowak's co-workers at A First Class Limousine Service heard about their co-worker, his boss Michael Mason, said they just wanted to help.

"He's like a son to me and my wife," Mason said."And, he would give me the shirt off of his back. He's professional, caring and he's a Christian man and we just want to do everything we can to help."

On Saturday Lowak's co-workers and friends put together a barbecue plate fundraiser to help his family pay for his stacking medical bills.

Lowak is back home after spending nearly a week in a Colorado hospital undergoing surgery..

"Brent is a man of integrity and he's touched so many people's lives," said Meg Bodin, a family friend. "So, we wanted to work together with Mr. Mason and put this barbecue together."

Bodin said the fundraiser on Saturday is also a way that they can honor Lowak's friend, Ghawi, who was killed in the shooting.

"We've all known each other for 10 years," said Bodin. "We all met in high school and we were also good friends with Jessica and it's been hard."
