TERRELL, Texas (AP) — Memorial services have begun for a Dallas firefighter who died after being knocked from an icy highway overpass by a vehicle while clearing an earlier auto wreck.
Hundreds of firefighters joined the family and friends of William Scott Tanksley on Monday for the funeral in Terrell (TEHR'-uhl). Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery-Garden of Honor in Dallas.
Tanksley was killed Feb. 10. Investigators say the 40-year-old was struck by a vehicle that had lost control on the icy roadway. He fell about 50 feet to his death.
Tanksley had been a Dallas firefighter for 14 years. He was married with three children.
