San Antonio drivers have watched gasoline prices rise steadily over the last several weeks but they should start to see some relief at the gas pump now that the Labor Day holiday is over and Hurricane Isaac has come and gone.
Valero had to shut down two refineries because of the hurricane but they are coming back online and that will make a difference.
“Now that we are out of the Labor Day weekend and those refineries are coming back (online), I think over the next month you will see prices start to decrease," said Bill Day, spokesman for Valero.
Day said the oil refineries will also be changing back over to their regular blend from the summer blend and that should mean another 5 to 10 cents a gallon.
Retailers are also helping out the drivers.
"Valero has a Valero credit card. If you sign up, you get certain deals, " Day said.
Joining in pump relief is HEB. They announced that starting Wednesday, Sept. 5, they will offer gas gift cards.
Drivers can purchase the cards then swipe them at the pump to save 12 cents a gallon.
“HEB is committed to lower prices and we really want to help our customers leading up to the holiday season,” said Kimberly Harle, spokeswoman for HEB.
Drivers can keep the same card and just reload funds. The program runs through Dec. 31.
