George Rodriguez killed in 2002, no arrests made
$10,000 reward in murder cold case
A new cold case is featured this week by Crime Stoppers and SAPD, this one from back in 2002.
The case is of 47-year-old George Rodriguez, shot to death outside a nightclub in August of that year.
At least 15 bullet casings found at the scene detailed a gruesome crime. Nearly a decade later, the club where it happened has changed from Nacho's to the Night Rocker.
Police said Rodriguez used to be a bartender at the club, and he may have been there that night working security. He was shot and killed in the parking lot outside the bar.
The crime left its impact on the neighborhood.
"Yeah, it surprised me. I had never seen any activity to that extent," said Scott Johnson, who works across the street from the bar. "I remember coming to work that morning and there were shell casings all over the ground."
Rodriguez was shot around 3 a.m., but nobody reported anything until about 6 a.m., investigators said.
A few robbery calls had gone out from the area before, but Johnson said the bar didn't cause too much trouble.
Police combed the area, but leads turned up nothing and the case stands unresolved.
The Rodriguez family is still looking for justice because the man's killer still walks free.
A $10,000 reward is on the table for any tips leading to an arrest in this case. The reward is double what Crime Stoppers usually offers, and will last for this week only. After that, the reward drops back down to the normal $5,000.
