George Strait Hopes To Bring Resort Back
Country Legend, Business Partner Look To Restore Tapatio Springs
If there is one thing George Strait loves as much as -- if not more than -- making hit songs, it is golf.
"If I don't play golf every day, I feel like I've missed out on something. So I try to play almost every day, " said the county music legend.
He and his business partner, Tom Cusick, used to play the courses at Tapatio Springs quite frequently.
"George and I, we've been coming out here for over 25 years, and over the last 10 years, we virtually stopped coming here, and it was just sad to see the condition it was in," said Cusick.
So Strait and Cusick bought the resort and gave it a makeover.
"We re-did all of the hotel rooms. We re-did the dining room, the bar area, the pro shop, the men's and women's locker rooms, the men's 19th hole," Strait said.
Just about everything about the resort has been changed or upgraded -- except for the golf courses.
" We think the layout -- especially the original 18 -- is a great layout. It might require a little tweaking here and there, but we don't have any plans for that right now," Strait said.
Cusick and Strait are banking on their investment, and Strait's name, to put the resort back in the top tier of golf destinations in South Texas.
"It was lacking a lot of TLC and that's what we're giving it now. We're trying to bring it back and we WILL do it, " Strait said.
