A Madison Highs School student was arrested Friday after officials said he brought an unloaded gun to school.
Northeast Independent School District spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor said a student told administrators that the 16-year-old student had a gun in the trunk of his car.
Chancellor said the school was put under lockdown and NEISD police were called. They searched the vehicle and discovered the gun in the student's trunk.
Chancellor said the student, who has not been identified, was arrested, removed from campus and is facing charges of bringing a weapon into a no-weapon zone. She also said the student could be facing additional charges.
The lockdown was lifted after about 30 minutes. Chancellor said a letter will be sent out to parents notifying them of the incident.
She said there was never any threats against the school.
