HEB Slimdown blog: Juan
Four weeks have passed since all 25 of us were released from HEB Fit Camp. I can’t believe how time flies.
I have to remind myself, “I am not on a diet, I am making a lifestyle change.” It’s not easy to change everything you ever knew about food and make the new healthier changes a permanent reality.
Luckily, my wife is on board with this new lifestyle and that helps a lot.
I have never had to track my food and exercises before, but since I have been doing it, my friends can see what I am doing, it keeps me honest and true to myself. You have to be mentally ready to make and accept a new lifestyle change.
I ran out of excuses, because I was tired of being tired all the time. No more excuses for me!
I mentioned in my first blog that my new family is my main motivation to get me through the workouts I have been doing so far. However, I also have another motivation: my followers.
My followers on the HEB.com/slimdown blog are helping me keep on moving. It is good to know that I am inspiring family, friends, co-workers, and strangers to make healthier changes in their lives, too.
I am not craving any foods like I used to. I see food in a different way now because food is fuel for our bodies. The better quality food you put in, the better your body will be. It’s as simple as that.
So, you may be wondering what progress I have made so far.
Well, for starters I participated in my first 7K run. I am proud of that accomplishment because I stopped three times to take a mini-break, but my wife was right by my side to keep me going.
Recently, I have reached one of my goals. I lost 20 pounds so far and I weigh in the 200s now. It’s been years since I weighed 200-anything.
I thought I would never say this, but I enjoy exercising now.
You can often find me at the gym in a Zumba class, because it’s fun and a good way to change up your exercise routine.
I stated earlier you have to be mentally ready to make a lifestyle change. I don’t think being active or exercise is a chore; I need to be active to live.
If you are struggling with weight loss like I have, I am here to tell you, “You can do it, you will do it, It will happen.”
Be ready and willing to accept what you need to do to make change happen. It’s not easy -- nothing ever is.
You will have a bad day, expect it. But, don’t beat yourself up about it. Get back on track and stick to your plan.
Please visit my blog at www.HEB.com/slimdown and leave me words of encouragement, share with your family and friends as well. Thank you.
