Trustees for the Harlandale Independent School District have appointed an internal candidate to take over as interim superintendent for the district.

Rey Madrigal was chosen Thursday night over one other internal candidate. Madrigal graduated from Harlandale High School and has spent the past 25 years working for the high school.

His most recent position was the assistant superintendent for maintenance and operations, but he was also principal of Harlandale High School and middle school.

Madrigal takes over for Robert Jaklich who is reportedly set to become the new superintendent of Victoria Independent School District.
