Mayor of Hidalgo resigns, served in office since 1990, will concentrate on law practice

HIDALGO, Texas (AP) — A South Texas mayor has resigned after more than two decades in office.
Hidalgo (hih-DAL'-goh) Mayor John David Franz (frahnz) announced his resignation at Tuesday night's city commission meeting.
Voters will choose a new mayor May 12.
Franz has been mayor of the Texas border city since 1990. He says he plans to concentrate on his law practice and his family.
