A hit-and-run accident on the northbound access road of Interstate 35 at Rittiman Road caused a fuel spill early Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

San Antonio police said a car struck an 18-wheeler around 4 a.m. when it came through the turnaround, and punctured the truck's fuel tank.

About 50 gallons of diesel spilled. San Antonio police said HazMat put down absorbent material and environmental cleanup company responded to clear the mess.

The Rittiman Road offramp from northbound Interstate 35 and the turnaround were shut down for a few hours.

San Antonio police said the driver of the car left scene but was caught on Eisenhauer Road. There were no reported injuries.
