Holiday travel rush is on at San Antonio International Airport
The holiday travel rush is on at San Antonio International Airport.
And late Friday afternoon, many of those passengers were greeted with an unexpected surprise when they hit the ticket counters -- no lines.
"I thought it was going to be a lot busier," a passenger said.
Charles Freude, who was flying to Oklahoma, thought the airport was going to be busier.
"we walked in and saw that it was almost empty and I was like, 'Whoa, this is great'" he said.
Airport staff said they were expecting a heavy flow of travelers coming in and out of San Antonio, but so far the extra staff on hand to handle the holiday rush hasn't been needed.
Leslie Gongora and her family drove in from Kerrville to hop a flight to New Jersey.
"This will be the first time we've gone since the storm (Sandy), so we'd like to see the ferris wheel in the ocean," Gongora said. "Hopefully, there wont be any bad weather."
Airport officials said passengers can help make things easier by arriving two hours before their flight leaves, check on their flight prior to leaving home, do not wrap gifts and label bags and luggage.
