The first step in a major highway expansion project on the North Side will kick off on Sunday.

The Texas Department of Transportation is slated to begin work on expanding Interstate 10 by one lane in each direction between Huebner and 1604.

On Sunday, TxDOT will shut down the westbound entrance ramp between Wurzbach and Huebner for nine weeks.

The detour route will push traffic going west furthur down the frontage road in order to get on Interstate 10. Work on the ramp should last about 10 weeks.
