LIVE OAK, Texas -

The Joint San Antonio Military Community held its semi-annual job fair Wednesday at the Live Oak Civic Center.

The event focused on providing job opportunity for veterans, active and reserve members of the military and their families.

Sgt. Joseph Moncado was one of hundreds of job seekers who attended. After serving in the Marine Corp for 3 1/2 years, Moncado is trying to transition to life outside of the military. Right now he needs a job.

"Before I even got out of the Marine Corp, I was looking online, like usajobs.com, monster.com, putting my resume out there. And it's really hard," Moncado said.

Since the job fair caters to the military community, it may give people like Moncado an edge.

Most of the 65 employers were looking for people with military backgrounds. USAA, Toyota, Shell, New York Life, Tyson Foods, Texas Department of Public Safety and Southwest Research Institute were some of the employers looking to fill positions.

Ramon Pena, a Texas Veterans Commission Employment representative, said the job fair aims to help those who may have a tough time transitioning from military to civilian life.

"That's our focus. We're going to take care of them, and they're not going to be left behind," Pena said. "And that's our primary objective, to make sure the transition is smooth for them. But not only for them, but for their family as well."

Classes were held at the fair to help with resume writing. There's also the advantage of being able to make direct contact with potential employers.

"You feel like empty when you're just in front of the computer just trying to send your resume some place," said Luis Amaro, a job seeker. "Face-to-face, it actually gives you the ability to actually talk and express your ability with people."

Amaro and Moncado both said they felt good about their chances of landing a job soon.
