Search on for kayaker reported missing at Houston-area retention pond, known to fish at site

HOUSTON (AP) — Searchers are checking a Houston-area retention pond where a kayaker has been reported missing.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Ryan Smith was last seen Saturday at the pond. Investigators say Smith has been known to fish at the site and frequently uses his kayak.

Witnesses notified authorities after finding the kayak along the shore Saturday afternoon. The search continued through the evening.

The sheriff's office on Sunday didn't immediately provide an update on search efforts.
