The multi-count indictment against Kwaku Agyin, 21, alleges that he had sex with a 16-year-old Houston runaway, forced her into prostitution and killed a man who tried to help her.
According to prosecutors, Agyin shot Marcus Anderson to death on Oct. 2, 2011, after learning that he had befriended the teen and was trying to get her out of prostitution.
“Instead of just being a john to her, (Agyin) decided to use her to make his own money,” Prosecutor Rose Sebell told the jury during opening arguments. “His greed is what caused this whole situation to go on for the next three weeks that led to the death of Marcus Anderson."
The multi-count indictments accuses Agyin of aggravated sexual assault, compelling prostitution, trafficking of a teenager, harboring a teenager and murder.
If he is found guilty on all counts, Agyin would be facing a maximum of 13 life sentences.
Testimony will continue on Thursday in Judge Lori Valenzuela’s 437th District Court.
