La Vernia audit
LA VERNIA, Texas -

La Vernia Independent School District officials disagreed Tuesday with the Texas attorney general over being on a list of districts that didn't comply or entirely missed a safety audit.

District officials showed KSAT 12 News that it conducted the audit in June 2011 and turned it in to the School Safety Center.

But School Safety Center officials defended the list, which was released Monday, and said it was possible La Vernia inputed the data wrong.

Several school districts in the Corpus Christi area also disagreed with the list.

School Safety Center officials said the districts named on the list will have an opportunity to resubmit their data soon.

Despite being on the list, some parents whose children attend La Vernia ISD schools weren't fazed by the news and said school officials take safety seriously.

"They're real careful when we come in, even when we come in to eat breakfast with them or lunch," said Claudia Caballero, a parent whose child attends school at La Vernia ISD. "They're always real careful about identifying the parent that is for the child."

Deborah Trongo, said she feels her grandchildren are safe.

"I feel they're safe, because if I forget these I have to go into the office and show ID and proof of everything before I can get in line to pick up my grandchildren."
