A San Antonio man has set a Guinness Book of World Records record for the most marathons run in one year by a man.
68-year-old San Antonio attorney Larry Macon broke the record at the Texas Savage Seven Marathon in San Antonio on Monday.
"I could never have accomplished this insane journey if it hadn't been for the daily e-mails and Facebook messages from my fellow Marathon Maniacs and marathoners in the 50 States Club," said Macon.
The local attorney passed another personal milestone Monday as he turned 68-years-old.
"When they yelled, 'You are looking good' when I was crawling to the finish line an hour after the next to last finisher had eaten lunch and already gone home, they resuscitated me with wonderful hugs," said Macon.
In 2011, Macon ran 113 marathons, breaking his own Guinness world record set on Dec. 31, 2010, at the Savages Seven race in Ocala, Fla. He first broke the marathon record on Dec. 14, 2008, at the Dallas White Rock Marathon.
As of Dec. 31, 2012, Macon has run 4,113.4 miles in 2012 alone, gone through 13 pairs of shoes and logged more than 250,000 miles in the air.
Macon's lifetime marathon count as of December 31 is 980 and 25,676 miles.
