Local family turns to Facebook to sell belongings
DeBusk family posting items on their Facebook page
Most people turn to garage sales, Craigslist, or donations to get rid of their belongings, but one family turned to Facebook to sell every item in their home.
From wall decorations to trinkets, every single item inside the DeBusk family home will be up for sale on their family’s Facebook page.
"It just dawned on me one day, what if I do a Facebook page, and put on 5, 6 or 10 things on there each week, and just see if my friends want to buy something. Or friends of friends want to buy something and get rid of it slowly,” said Lisa DeBusk.
DeBusk says she began posting items about three weeks ago, and has been successful in getting rid of lamps, wall hangings, and other items.
The DeBusks said they hope to get rid of everything they own by next summer; that's when they plan to move to Italy to open a church.
“It's all a little bit sad in that so many of these things we've collected over the years, and we know we can't take them with us, and we know we can't box everything up and ask someone to put it in their attic for us,” said Ben DeBusk, Pastor at Northeast Bible Church. “So we have to let it go, and remember that the memories aren't in the things, yet there are memories attached to the things.”
As the family passes on those memories, they said they're looking forward to making a life full of new ones.
“Life is about growth. Where there is no change, there is essentially death. So we're looking at this as a way to grow, and continue to grow," said Ben DeBusk. “We just trust God for the results."
